The Hi Life Big Band is an 18+ piece swing big band directed by Andrew Worsfold and made up from Christians from churches across the city of Southampton. We play a variety of big band music ranging from Glenn Miller to Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as more contemporary popular music including songs from the film Sister Act 2!
The Big band has been playing together since 2001 where it performed together in the Hi-Life Christian Festival in Southampton (hence it's name). We have played at various church services across the city, bringing a big band flavour to the praise and worship. We have also led the music at outreach events, including outdoor events on the Mainstage in conjunction with Miracle Street. More recently, we have taken part in several charity concerts and dances, to raise funds for various organisations including Cry, Edith's Home, Southampton City Mission and Flowers of Justice.
Sound Interesting?
We would be more than happy to hear from musicians who would be interested in joining, particularly trumpet, trombone and saxophone players of a grade 7 / 8 standard or above. We would also welcome interest from organisations wishing to add a 'big band swing' to their charity event, and from churches wishing to add a big band sound to their praise and worship.
